¡Los Oscars 2023 por fin están aquí! Este año, la competencia ha estado muy variada y muy reñida, aunque la ceremonia se ha conducido sin contratiempos, haciendo hincapié en la rapidez, con pocas bromas y pocas intervenciones. De hecho, la chispa de la noche la pusieron presentadores como Michael B. Jordan y Jonathan Majors, así cómo los números musicales de Naatu Naatu y This is Life.
Las grandes protagonistas de la noche son Michelle Yeoh y Cate Blanchett, ya que ambas compiten cabeza a cabeza por ver quién se lleva la estatuilla de Mejor Actriz, premio que al final se fue para la protagonista de Everything Everywhere All At Once. Pero eso no quita que la victoria de Daniel Kwan y Daniel Scheinert como los Mejores directores de los Oscars 2023 no haya sido emocionante, así como el gran desempeño de Everything Everywhere All At Once y All Quiet on the Western Front en la premiación.

Austin Butler resultó también un férreo contendiente para Brendan Fraser, pero al final el actor de la Momia tuvo su regreso triunfal a Hollywood y se llevó la estatuilla como Mejor Actor. Fraser dio un emotivo discurso donde celebró a todo el equipo de The Whale, cinta que también se llevó el premio a maquillaje y peinado, por lo que fue una noche muy exitosa para el estudio A24 en los Oscars 2023, productora detrás del drama basado en una obra de teatro y la favorita Everything Everywhere All At Once.
Ke Huy Quan, por otro lado, voló directamente por el premio a Mejor Actor de Reparto, sin competencia que pudiera impedírselo. “Mamá, acabo de ganar un Óscar” contó en un emotivo discurso sobre sus orígenes y su familia. “Así se ve el sueño americano” sentenció en su discurso.
Pero la victoria de Quan fue sólo el inicio para Everything Everywhere All At Once en los Oscars 2023, ya que Daniel Kwan y Daniel Scheinert también se llevaron el premio a Mejor Guion Original. La categoría de Mejor Actriz de Reparto se fue sorprendentemente a Jamie Lee Curtis, a pesar de que la favorita era Angela Bassett por su interpretación en Wakanda Forever. La cinta también se llevó Mejor Edición, Mejor Dirección y Mejor Película.
“Damas, nunca dejen que les digan que su época ya pasó” fue la gran oración de Michelle Yeoh cuando recibió el premio a Mejor Actriz. Un hecho histórico para la comunidad asiática. Con esto, Everything Everywhere All At Once se convirtió en la cinta más galardonada en un mismo año en toda la temporada de premios desde El Retorno del Rey, al llevarse 7 estatuillas de las 11 a las que fue nominada.
Aunque los Oscars 2023 decidieron rechazar la petición del presidente de Ucrania, Navalny, el documental ganador de este año, nos recordó el precio del silencio y el exilio político. Quien también dio un discurso cargado de política a favor de la inclusión fue Sarah Polley, una de las pocas mujeres galardonadas en la ceremonia, quien aprovechó su discurso para agradecer a las mujeres en la industria que le ayudaron a llegar ahí.
All Quiet of The Western Front, una de las películas más galardonadas del año en los Oscars 2023, se llevó de inmediato la categoría de Mejor Cinematografía, y como los premios BAFTA indicaban, también se llevó la presea de Mejor Película Internacional, rompiendo la quiniela de quienes apostaron por Argentina 1985. También ganó en Mejor Diseño de Producción y Mejor Banda Sonora, consolidándola como una de las cintas más reverenciadas de la noche al llevarse a casa 4 estatuillas de las 9 por las que compitió.
El cineasta Guillermo del Toro puso en grande el nombre de México nuevamente al ganar Mejor Película Animada. Y el ambicioso proyecto de James Cameron: Avatar The Way of the Water, se llevó el galardón a Mejores Efectos Visuales en los Oscars 2023.
Con cintas como Top Gun: Maverick, Al Quiet in the Western Front, The Batman, Triangle of Sadness, Banshees of Inisherin y Marcel the Shell With the Shoes On, en realidad los Oscars 2023 son una de las premiaciones más competidas en muchos años, pues la calidad y popularidad de estas películas hizo una premiación muy variada con pequeñas pero muy significativas sorpresas.
